Friday's Football Action had close finishes and a couple of surprising results.
Branson 35 Logan-Rogersville 28
The game at Pirate Stadium between the 5-2 home team and the 6-1 visiting Wildcats grabbed plenty of attention, including the selection of the Ozark Sports Zone Game of the Week.
The game lived up to expectation as the two teams traded scores most of the night. A time consuming drive completed with a minute to go until half appeared to give the Pirates the lead but the Wildcats returned the following kick-off 95 yards to tie the score at intermission at 21 each. Neither team scored in the third quarter with each team getting a score early in the fourth quarter. Branson took a 35-28 lead on Vincente Pastrana's 1-yard run with just over four minutes remaining. Rogersville moved back down the field quickly and threw a pass around the two yard line that was ruled a catch and a fumble that was recovered by Branson who was able to run out the clock for the win.
Pastrana and Blake Weber each had two touchdowns while Noah McCright added a score. The Pirates are 6-2 and clinched at least a share of the Ozark Mountain Conference title entering their regular season finale Thursday at Springfield Hillcrest. The Pirates will clinch the outright title and possibly a home playoff game with a win.
Forsyth and Hollister Pull-Off Huge Road Wins
The Panthers and Tigers took road wins against perennially tough opponents. Forsyth took a huge step toward hosting a playoff game and a chance at the Mid-Lakes Conference Title with a 58-34 win at Fair Grove while Hollister pulled off one of the surprises of the year as the Tigers knocked off previously undefeated Springfield Catholic 60-31 enhancing their chances for a home playoff game. The Panthers host Buffalo while the Tigers play their annual rivalry game at Reeds Spring to finish the season next Friday.
Harrison, Reeds Spring Lose Close Games
The Goblins and Wolves both suffered losses in the final minute of their games. For Harrison, the Goblins dropped a 38-34 home contest to Morrilton while Reeds Spring, still searching for win number one on the season, saw host Buffalo score a touchdown and two-point conversion in the final 30 seconds to grab a 15-14 win. While the Wolves will host Hollister next week, the Goblins will hit the road to Vilonia.
