Two Lakes Area Teams were stopped in their efforts to beat higher seeded teams in Baseball District Tournaments.
The Branson Pirates were playing Nixa for the second time in just over a week, having lost a 3-1 extra inning game to the Eagles in the final week of the regular season. The two teams met up on Wednesday in Ozark in the opening round of the Class 6 District Tournament. Pirate Pitcher Patrick Deville and Eagle Pitcher Wyatt Francis held their opponents scoreless through five innings before Wit Miller's solo home run in the sixth gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Nixa got a couple of base runners on in the sixth inning and with the runners at second and third and one out, the Eagle put a bunt down which they tied the game while the Pirates did not record an out. The next batter hit a sacrifice fly that scored the eventual winning run in the 2-1 loss. The Pirates finished their season 16-19.
Meanwhile for the second year in a row, the Hollister Tigers faced off against the host Rogersville Wildcats in the Class 4 District Championship Game. Despite the Tigers holding Rogersville to only one hit in the game, a combination of walks and misplays helped the Wildcats claim the 4-2 win in their second straight District Championship win over the Tigers. Hollister finishes 24-11 for the season.
