The Missouri State High School District Basketball Tournaments are under way for Class 4 through 6 schools with several MOARK Teams still playing.
Branson pulled off the biggest upset so far as the seventh seeded Pirates came from 13 points down to stun the second seeded Glendale Falcons 55-50. The Pirates trailed until late in the fourth quarter, when they took a brief lead only to see Glendale answer with a basket and a free throw to go back up by two. The Pirates tied back up on the next possession then after a stop, Griffin Mehrhoff hit a long-range three point shot to put the Pirates up for good, making enough free throws and stops down the stretch to secure the win. Mehrhoff and Jett James each had 15 points to lead Branson, who will match-up with Nixa in the semifinals of the District on Thursday at Springfield Kickapoo.
Other action
Tuesday saw MOARK teams split the opening round games at the Class 4 District with host Hollister downing Aurora 68-53 while Catholic held on for a 50-40 win over Reeds Spring. The results sets up an all area District Semifinal Thursday as top seeded Forsyth, who earned a first round bye will play Hollister in a rematch of a game that the Panthers won two weeks ago. The other semifinal Thursday will feature Clever and Catholic.
On the girls side, Branson's season ended at the Class 6 District at Republic Monday as the Lady Pirates fell to Ozark 58-41 while Forsyth held off Hollister in their Class 4 District match-up on Monday 56-55.
