A college baseball team heading to North Arkansas College for a four game series crashes after leaving their Iowa Campus.
NorthArk released a statement on Wednesday sending condolences to the the Iowa Lakes Community College Baseball Program and their families along with the entire college community.
According to the statement from the college plus multiple media reports, the team bus crashed while heading to Harrison for the series that was scheduled to begin today. The four games have been cancelled.
Media reports indicate 33 people were on the bus that crashed near Twin Lakes, about an hour away from their campus in Estherville. One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the other passengers had a range of minor to serious injuries.
North Arkansas College President Dr. Rick Masengale released this statement:
"Our hearts are heavy as we grieve alongside the Iowa Lakes College community. The loss of a life is a tragedy that reaches far beyond one campus. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who passed away, and we are lifting up in prayer those who were injured and all who are affected. During moments like this, we are reminded that the higher education community is a family, and we stand ready to support Iowa Lakes Community College in any way we can.”
